The appearance of Mad Max in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is so fleeting and seemingly insignificant that it can hardly be classified as a cameo. It's just a quick shot of Max (portrayed by Jacob Tomuri, Tom Hardy's stunt double from Mad Max: Fury Road), with his face not clearly visible, leaning against his V8 Interceptor, eating canned food and casually gazing out over a cliff into the vast emptiness below - a typical Mad Max pose, reminiscent of the beginning of Fury Road (even though it's set many years before that film). In the far distance below him, we can see Furiosa slowly making her way across the desert towards the Citadel.
It appears to be a throwaway scene, a hidden gem for fans, but there may be deeper meaning behind it. At this moment, Furiosa is at her lowest point: she has suffered injuries and abuse, her partner and lover, Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke), has been brutally killed, and she has managed to free herself from Dementus by forcibly removing (or possibly biting off) her own severely wounded arm, which was chained to a truck.
Meanwhile, Max casually observes this vulnerable young woman, with her amputated arm, hobbling through the desert. (The vehicle Furiosa used to escape has also broken down by this time.) Just before the scene shifts away from him, Max becomes slightly more attentive, but he does not make any attempt to assist her. This is the Wasteland, after all, where everyone fends for themselves; Max is not willing to risk his life or waste his resources helping someone who appears to have little time left in this world.
However, the scene fades out. When it returns, we briefly catch a glimpse of Furiosa, unconscious, being dragged by an unseen individual. Then it fades out once more. When it reappears, she finds herself in an underground cave within the Citadel, where her arm is infested with maggots. Severed limbs are scattered throughout the area. We had briefly glimpsed this location before, hinting at the presence of cannibalism within the Citadel.
